Millions of Caribbean American and tourists lined up along the streets of Eastern Parkway to celebrate Caribbean cultural festivities on Monday September 1, 2008 in Brooklyn.

New York Governor David Paterson and Dr. Elizabeth Nunez, were the Grand Marshalls of the 41st annual parade. Dr. Nunez is the first woman to serve as Grand Marshal is the Provost and Senior Vice President of Medgar Evers College. With over 70 floats providing delightful Caribbean music and entertainment, revelers danced and waved distinctive flags of all the 38 Caribbean nations showcasing a unique collection of people strung together by a common heritage.
Also upfront was Mayor Bloomberg, carrying a cluster of Caribbean flags, Haiti's flag was frequently on the outside.
A slew of politicians including Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and NYC Council President Christine Quinn led off the parade which attracted 2 million visitors.
[Dr. Nunez is an internationally known scholar of Caribbean literature and an award-winning novelist. ]
Konpa floats Tvice and Carimi wrapped up the parade. They were follow by thousands of Haitian supports along the corner at Grand Army Plaza and continued in the carnival spirit along Flatbush. ( Click here to view images of 2008 West Indian Day Parade)
